Techlead has never be an easy role . Unlike Individual contributor, your team output=yours. You need to break down tasks and dispatch, however It is not about people-task mapping then follow up, because If you push too much ,they hate you and leave; If you are under stress timeout and take up everything yourself, you burn out.
It’s hard.
After struggled 7 years, I find out some tricks to get out the loop , effectively .
#1 Less coding
Shifting your mindset away from coding , think less about debugging , fix it or solve it .
Delivery thousands of code every week won’t help you get any extra cent into your account . read it again.
If you get a task after involved into a meeting or discussion, and when meeting done, make sure leave your hand off from the keyboard !
Yes I know you can finish it in 10–30 minutes, but wait, hold on for a second and ask yourself:
Who is your left-hand guy and what he is doing? and how about the new junior assigned to you 2 days ago to build up , why you want get it done by yourself again ?
You may think about efficiency ,get things done fast. Yes, true.
but , It must be sustainable in a long run .
